I want to be an artist/poet-story writer.
What about you?

How do we reach those job dreams?
Is it better to start planning now?
When should one have a job?

@mister kitten,
I want to be a mover and a shaker. I want to have earned the respect of a wide and competent network so that when I have an idea I can mobilize that group and achieve real progress.

Planning is essential, and it's never too soon to have a plan established. Keep your eyes open for opportunities and take advantage of them. Always come through when you make a promise, and just be reliable in general. If you follow that prescription you will find more doors open than you could imagine.

One should have a job whenever it is necessary or advantageous. But just like full-time students should also be working on other endeavors, a full-time employee should also always be working on their personal career.

I'm currently a full-time student, vice president of a non-profit, and I have an interview tomorrow at a prestigious university to be their sustainability associate.

@Fido,
The world and your family wants you to to be a professional, I would guess they want you to be skilled.
The family and world needs you to survive.
To have a skill these days is the only sure way to ensure a wage in the future.
You might want to look into apprenticeship as this too is a sure fire way to ensure a wage in the future.
I would say your family and life is subtly starting to give you the reign of the head of the family.
Are you an only child or do you have siblings?
Because families need heads and heads need a profession and wage
But think about it an apprenticeship in the days to come and a skill under your belt will mean no matter where in the universe you ever end up you will always be able to pay the bills.
A TRADE is what we ought all have in our youth given ourselves.
And if you are still youthful enough to think you don't need a J.O.B you may be running out of time to get a good one.
If you are TRADE marked you and your family will never go hungry ever again.
Think about it, what would you like to be able and willing at to ensure money in your pocket for the rest of your life?
If you still have time You don't have to define yourself by your job, but just start thinking what would I like to be doing for the next 70 years, what duty and job would I most like to do for the rest of my life?
What could I stand to be doing 50 years from now as a last resort?
Train for a summer or two and have the skill under your belt and that way where ever you travel in this world you will be able to put food in your stomach and hold your trousers up.
I hate to be the tider of bad omens but the world is going soon to go through a global shift of humanic proportions, our grandfathers may indeed be correct there will soon be little room to be a human being and instead we must all start being persons.
And a person always must contribute to what ever may be left of humanity of which we are likely to have to settle for and call humanity just society instead.
Cover you and your families back.
Start thinking about a TRADE you could have under your belt, something that would make you a prize to what ever government will be ruling us in the future.
It does not need to be your life's work, but just err on the side of safety and make sure you are a prize to society, make sure your TRADE is something sought after and will always be needed.
Think to your self what does the world always need, what could I stand to be needed for?
Are you going to go to college?
Think also and possibly instead an apprenticeship, you know college is quickly becoming obsolete and the pass time of the privileged.
Besides if you have a secure job and are always in demand therefore solid you are going to be the one who has options, you are going to be the one who has the time to play, instead of the rest of the world who spent all there youth dreaming, you will be in the front of the pack.
Think what does the world always need that you would be happy to be and do for it?
Perhaps a plumber or carpenter or a teacher (but only the elite in the teaching field get any money) so I suppose the first real question you need to ask yourself is how important for my future and my families security is MONEY?
If you think money is important become a carpenter and study to be a teacher in your spare time.
Sorry to go on, I have more to say but i don't want to be sounding like a bad facsimile of a guidance counciler.
So will let this sink in.
Maybe you want to work with animals?
Think what do I want to be able to afford in life and what do I want to go to each day and not want to blow my brains out for.
Get in on the ground floor.
The weak are soon going to be picked off in the coming of this new 'society' based world, I just want you to be strong and to be safe.
Because I know by being a dreamer my days are numbered, unless I can convince others of the worth of my dreams.
The day ideology died is a comin,
be skilled pay the bills.
I personally would like to be a nurse and may be taking some training myself in this area soon, the pay may be crappy but the rewards will be a life that is indispensable.
You don't know life till you've worked in a hospital, there is some living and dying philosophy going on right there.
Think if I were on a desert island would they want to keep me around longer and eat the others first.

If we lose our human nature, then will we lose our humanity?

@mister kitten,
The key thing is to just want to be YOU, whatever "you" turns out to be.

Human nature does not co-exist, our humanity is like wise not our nature.
IF we are human which I so happen to believe today we can only be controlled by societies design which is neither human nor nature.
I may not be explaining myself very well, so will pretend I believe in human nature to answer.
If we lose our nature then this when we become human, which just so happens to coincide with what I do believe.
If we lose our humanity we may not become a nature, there may be some other level of being which I am as yet not able to report on, it will be called society something though, possibly totalitarian also.
Sorry I may not have helped tonight.

At least you have a want at the end of your shift.
Sometimes I think it is our 'want' that will ultimately destroy us because you can never really satisfy it.

Are you saying give up on the 'need' to be you?

I would rephrase if I have read it right as, on your days and hours off keep your self alive by expressing and experiencing your desires.
Have fun. Enjoy yourself when ever you get the time.

@mister kitten,
I want to be a writer, but if that doesn't work out I want to be marine biologist maybe. Or just marry some rich guy. Honestly I don't know, but I do my best in school so I can study whatever I want later.

You should know what some Muslims say: If you would change the world, first change yourself...That ought to give you an idea of what you are up against... If you wanted to organize a mass movement I think it would be easy if you were to reaffirm everyones vices, and build them into a mass defense of no progress and no change... People feel threatened by change... They build their forms to resist change... You want to change people if you want to change the world, and there is only one way: Make people feel differently about things, because they are going to have to feel a whole lot different before they will ever accept a world like you have in mind, because your world requires responsibility and sacrifice, two qualities humans are not much given to the display of...

@sometime sun,
Try to be a little easier on HexHammer He seems to have a dream and that is where changes start. [In my opinion]

He is also here on this site considering all of your points of views, So I would say that he has a interest in changing himself for the better sometime sun.

Maybe I am wrong and if I am, I am cool if HexHammer wants to burst my illogical bubble. LOL :surrender:

@mister kitten,
I always wanted to be a programmer, but now that I see how human-oriented that is, I'm rather doubting it. I'll probably study mathematics or physics -- not applied, though! -- and then do whatever seems like a good idea from there.

It is hard to fix yourself without tools, and to fix external problems works at once on internal problems, because no one labors for good without giving good some thought, so it is inevitable that people who are good in their society and community are good in their person...

Yes, I think I can objectively state that I am good at mathematics.

@mister kitten,
I, unfortunatly, have no idea yet. Which is pretty bad considering I am almost done with school...

Nothing has captured my interest so much that I find I have a passion for it to do it for the rest of my life.

My parents, however, expect me to be something like a doctor...and you can blame society for that. =]

@mister kitten,
I may be inclined to ask those who want me to change, what results they themselves have produced? ..none?

I have proved myself, I know my own worth.

What you want maybe not come true. Perhaps, you are too poor to support your self as a artist, so you end up being a waiter.

On the other hand, what you want comes true, but you turn out to hate it. What happens than? You end up hating what you do, and leave yourself unsatisfied.

What is the solution? What if you maintain a state of mind such that you accept anything, and reason every step of the way? What if you are comfortable with who you are? This is also not the way. You might end up not caring at all... I suspect there is a solution! Here is a counterintuitive solution. If you are young, try whatever, do whatever, and most of all, believe in yourself, and have the confidence to make longer term goals, but tell yourself that even if you fail, you can have improved yourself by this live experience. I suspect, "life experience" is a solution, with no reference to how good, or bad, but this cannot be it. You might end up as a bagger.
Perhaps you can try to:
1. maximize "life experience".
2. be open minded about new experiences.
3. Try to earn a living doing something you like.

Here is the reasoning:

3 is your objective, because work is essential to one ` s well-being, but you have to be adoptive. You go for what you like, thus 2. You might actually fail, so you hold the expectation of 1, and not worry so much of the bad consequences. Hmm.... You still be become a bagger. Perhaps:
4. luck.
