| Re: Know Thyself? I have to reject the idea of solipsism because there is no way in hell that I will ever believe that my consciousness would ever have allowed plaid shorts and Old Navy stores to come into existence.

... if we maintain this view about all things in our existence, faith in our senses and and ability to reach any conclusion loses all validity. I think the relational - that's just what you believe - sentiment is virtually beyond dispute. I also think it's a self-destructive way to view the world when taken to the extreme. The best application of the truth Kenn's talking about - I think - is to temper our egos into softening hard-line views (especially). It's an aspect of that knowing yourself process that's meant to mitigate the self, not decimate all prospect of knowledge. ... at least that's how I view it - thanks.

| Re: Know Thyself? This sentence does not make sense grammatically. Your tenses are mixed. Be that as it may, I have never, not once, shopped at Old Navy. I suspect, however, that you may be a wearer of plaid shorts. But, as you often say, that's okay, because everyone is different.

| Re: Know Thyself? I suppose that would be preferable to being physically entangled in plaid shorts themselves which would be a good deal more bodily awkward than the purely mental entanglement of which you speak.

| Re: Know Thyself? Well, I would assume that if one claims to know themselves, they would be willing to share that information. I mean, since man is man, if even one man knew what they were, and were gifted with the craft of language, they could then inform the world what they all were, and why, etc. This person could outline the principles of morality and justince, etc. etc. So, gifted one, share with us, what are you? Become the benifactor that man has long sought. |
