City Streetlights

The city's street lights are on,
So the night-bugs start to collect
All around the big bright bulbs.

Before me,
Houselights die slowly
Like glowing embers all alone—
Never disturbed in the stillness;
Never swelled or stirred by a breeze:

For such silence is a sleep that slowly falls,
Where there once was an ocean
That would never cease to remain
In its full fluidity.


Ocean Song

Could an ocean ever be without a shore?
Could there ever be the coast without the sea?
Could the mist ever move without the nightly salt-breeze along the bay?
Could the fog be seperate from the cliffs and hills to which it covers and clings?
Could the water spray without sharp stones—
The jagged slices fallen from the ends of the earth, reduced to crags?

Could the clouds glow ghostly-green without the spiritual shine
From the calm waters of the coming storm?
Would the ocean ever cease to roar?
Or would the waves one day quit their eternal rumble?
Could this place ever cease to be the least silent upon the earth?

For the sounding of love
Is the cry of the calmest ripple's wave.
Here: How your touch touches me deeply
Like waves touching on the sand:
How everything, in the iron motion of Day, will stop
To let the breaker fall.

Very nice, I especially like the ocean one...it really makes me think, which is always a good thing, especially when I have nothing to do.

These are really good for a person of the age of thirteen. I know people in their forties who cannot write so well.
