If you were the designer, how would you design it? How would you judge incoming souls(if you would in fact do so, with the assumption that human life is free acting/unscripted)? How would you reward? How would you govern? Lets have some fun with this.

Remember for fun's sake, keep it serious, as complex or as general as you want though, you may also compare it to other religious accounts, do as you like just keep far away from "everyone will eat icecream rawrrlll".

@alex717,
If I were the designer my first preference is not to have an afterlife. As death is the ultimate form of error correction. Frees up my time...

However, for the sake of fun, I find somewhat tricky to judge. A sinner does not necessarily sin all their life, so eternal damnation would seem a bit unfair. I think I would just put each and every soul that comes my way into a seperate universe where all other "life" forms have no souls, so that whatever they do unto others, really does not harm anyone, freeing up even more of my time to contemplate who created me.

@alex717,
I think I would give ever soul their own universe to be god on in afterlife, and just go around watching the universes that were created Smile

@manored,
When the soul enters the afterlife of its choice..similar to its earthy abode..its conscious is reawakened and it judges its own performance as a human...it has time to answer those questions and reconcile itself to its mistakes..it also is free to stay and enjoy its stay revisit friends and relatives ..time is of no consequence it is not relevant nor are normal base human desires..It can choose to be born again re try its abilities to learn by the human experience...at sometime it goes by its own ability to higher realm where its own individuality is lost in a common conscience..

@xris,
I would prefer it if:

- the mind were disconnected from time, so that "eternity" wouldn't necessarily feel eternal...

- emotions were suspended so as to be adrift and at peace...

- all you could do was dream, and dream, and dream...

@alex717,
I think I'd design the afterlife so that experiencing it it felt a bit like coming back off holiday or like stopping playing a computer simulation game. We would no longer feel the space time restrictions of our own universe but unfortunately, that would mean that we are incapable of specifying what such an afterlife would be like.

I agree, afterlife must be something far beyond imagination, like someone born blind trying to imagine vision.

@alex717,
I don't believe in sin or reward. Life is for living. And those of us who choose to live a good moral life do so for our own personal and spiritual growth, not because we are afraid of being punished. I would simply welcome everyone in, and the doorway they passed through would automatically remove any guilt or anger they carried with them. What they did after that would be their choice - go back and help others or stay here and help me - because there are more and more of you arriving every day.

@alex717,
What is with all these people thinking that morals are solely personal? Morals must be UNIVERSAL, here as well as there must be a metaphysical consistent moral structure. Rose...morals prevent someone from raping you 2maro when you cross the street, your lucky your ideology is not universally/socially accepted. "Oh another one of those guys, aww shucks!"

Its not about punishment, its about freewill and separation. There is no normal in the afterlife, there is good and there is bad. If someone chooses to live a life of evil in the middle ground, then when they pass on they get to live in what they choose, separate from good. People who want to live good in the middle ground, get to live good without the bad infringing on their lives like it does now. I know this was a creative thread, but I said be serious, saying there is no substantial reason to be moral besides ones own view of themselves seems ridiculous.

@alex717,
Good and evil is relative, and its concepts change with ever person. You cannot prove someone your concepts are correct and their wrong, because you both base yourselves in your beliefs to make those concepts.

A common concept of morals is necessary for a society, like a huge agreement where you make concessions so you can make part of the whole, but whenever it would be necessary or not in afterlife depends of how this afterlife is.

@alex717,
According to Frederick Myers, stage one is the earth dimension. As soon as the earth experience has been thoroughly comprehended - either through reincarnation or through the exchange of experiences with others in other dimensions - the soul may proceed to dimensions beyond the reach of the material dimension.

Stage two is called the Intermediate Realm or Hades. This is the spiritual condition, which is referred to in the ancient religious traditions as "hell." This is the realm where all must go upon experiencing the earth realm. Here, memories of our entire past lives flash before us. Whether or not this experience is "hellish" depends upon the memory of the particular person. If it contains sinister episodes and terrifying experiences, these will drift by the person's vision along with the more joyful happenings.

Some persons begin at this stage to feel what is called "the earth pull, the birth pull" and the person may decide to return to stage one, the earth realm. For others, stage two is brief and is followed by entry into a more stable world, which is stage three, the Realm of illusion.

The Realm of Illusion is a dimension where things may be created with the mind and shaped by the direct action of the imagination. Though a person may linger in this stage for undeterminable period of time, an eventual decision must be made. The soul returns either to earth or to progresses to stage four. Before leaving, however, the more enterprising souls may have an opportunity to experience one of the great wonders of this dimension of consciousness - a tour through some section of "The Great Memory." Just as on earth, one may go to a library and see newsreels of important earth events of history, so, in stage three, one may witness any event that occurred from the beginning of human experience. The Cosmic Memory has recorded everything that has ever happened.

Stage four is the Realm of Color. This dimension is an indescribably lovely existence. Here one must leave behind all rigid intellectual structures and dogmas, be they scientific, religious, or philosophical. An infinite variety of new sounds, colors and feelings are experienced here and souls find a much wider freedom to function with highly energized intellect and spirit. If, in this dimension, the soul becomes free from the earth pull, it is qualified to experience cosmic ranges beyond earth's confines, such as the next dimension.

Stage five is the Realm of Flame. In this dimension, the soul acquires a body of flame, enabling it to tour the stellar universe without being harmed by its temperatures and turbulence and to return with a fuller experience of these cosmic reaches. (I like this as my nde was similar)

Stage six is the Realm of Light. Souls in this dimension are matured spirits, having lived through, with conscious comprehension, all the aspects of the created universe. They are capable of living now without form, of existing as white light in the pure thought of the Creator. They have joined the immortals, thus fulfilling their final purpose of the evolution of consciousness.

Stage seven is the Realm of Timelessness. In this dimension, souls enter full partnership with God. This dimension is of an advanced spiritual nature, so close to the ultimate essence of creativity that no adequate vocabulary has yet been evolved to describe it, and hence it is difficult to communicate to earth-level beings.

But on what basis has he elaborated all of this? =)

I do believe in afterlife, and I do believe it has many forms, and I do believe it may (and does, at some point) include those mentioned, but I do not believe it has an end, or a final stage that lasts forever. Everything eventually ends, except the universe.

There is always time, time is essential for the mind to operate. Then he says "Realm of Timelessness", I trust he means "aparent timelessness", because your mind cant really do anything cool without time =)

And even if a region of the universe is frozen in timelessness, this doesnt means that it will last forever. After all time is still going on in the rest of the universe, and something is bound to break that timelessness eventually.

Assuming that the world is kept as it is, I would damn to hell those who believed in me without evidence, and send to heaven those who used their God-given reason instead of mindlessly following ancient superstitions.

@Pyrrho,
I would favor recycling, otherwise the waste just accumulates and it gets crowded.
