Real Time Pragmatics

For some time I have been interested in the marriage of real time chat with the pragmatic and prosodic rules of communication/language. I think people in the forum would benefit from a discussion regarding these things. This discission could consist of several point which are outlined below.

1) How has your traditional conversational pragmatic approach changed to accomodate real time text and Mic chat? (pragmatics = Pragmatics is the study of the ability of natural language speakers to communicate more than that which is explicitly stated.) This could include pausing, turn taking, prosody =The study of rhythm, intonation, stress, and related attributes in speech, speech analysis, presupposed information, the treatment of new versus old information, body language, facial expression, emotional expression etc....

2) How has does your perception of other chat conversation participants differ from a live conversation? this could go in post modern directions such as that of the cyborg, or dehumanization of participants etc..

3) How has real time text interaction affected you opinion on writing? For instance; spelling, abbreviation, grammar contractions and such and their effects on prescribed standards.

4) How does your expectations of a conversation differ from live conversation given factors such as, trolls, bots, font and font colors, emoticons, disperse topics, multiple conversations etc...

4) How does the forced linear scroll system of posted messages make you adapt versus audible conversations where your ears can hear multiple people talking at the exact same moment?

5) anything else you can think of.

I have my own opinions on these things which I shall most likely share in future posts on this thread, assuming that this thread interests people enough to comment.
