As someone who has extensively studied Freud(sigh forced it to it at University) and Jung, this was an act of free choice. I don't see how you can apply these two dynamics and come up with some sort of logical response here.

Sorry but the main difference between the two systems are that the Post-Jungian world perceives a Self which is seeking to become conscious by exercising greater control over the Ego. As for the collective unconscious the link IMHO is via the DNA, for it to be collective and for all of us to have access to it in a symbolic manner via our dreams. If there is a collective unconscious there has to be some common thread which we all share, the term which had some credence years ago was Morphic Resonance to describe how the commonality of symbolism reoccurred in diverse individuals dreamers.

The hard core followers of Freud are still mired in the obsolete notion that the unconscious is just the realm of the repressed, who can ever forget that great line in Forbidden Planet, "the monsters of the Id.'
