Each of us face our lives with an instinctual affection. Primitives, like moderns, cling to their lives and feel there is nothing else. When higher values are put forward they too involve life: the life of the community, or eternal life. Death is the defeat of all of us, and a part of our will to live is our sense that death ends all, ends meaning, and ends reality. |

This is a paragraph from a literary review I wrote and posted on my website. (Please see my recent introductory note regarding my proof of a creator.) The story I reviewed concerned a young, disillusioned Iraq War veteran: —Many years ago, a national news magazine asked people prominent in all walks of life: “What is the meaning of life?” The only answer of many that indelibly marked my consciousness was that given by famed comedian Jackie Mason. He answered, “No meaning. What meaning does a dance have?” I found Mr. Mason’s response to be both extremely interesting and enlightening. Curiously, as Mr. Mason is a former rabbi, I thought his answer reflected the underlying metaphysical basis of those Eastern religions usually referred to as being pantheistic. Brahman dances and then rests. Then the dance begins anew in the eternal cycle of existence: the eternal is. The only meaning is the dance itself. It is all there is or will ever be: "I AM WHO AM."— —Don Schneider |

| If you are talking to me I have plenty of both. If I could get a nickle an ounce for either I would be wealthy beyond my wildest dreams of avarice.

leables, Your worldview (how you see the world) will greatly influence your view of the meaning of life. If you believe that the essence of man is the physical body and there is no afterlife, then your idea of the meaning of life will be something to the effect of "he who dies with the most toys wins" or "live it up while you're still here" If you believe that the essence of man is metaphysical and eternal, you will want to use this life to make some lasting contribution to society and prepare yourself for your existence after this life is over. |
