A Brief Word on Tiger Woods

Posted 12-04-2009 at 05:41 AM by Victor Eremita

So Tiger Woods is a cheater. Not in golf, but with his marriage. And three alleged mistress at that! Add to that that he was allegedly drunk and distraught after arguing with his wife, and driving his Cadillac SUV into a hydrant and tree. And we have the debacle that is, the Personal Fall of Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods seemed to have it all: fame, wealth, victories, wife and children. But nay, seemed is the word. Why would Tiger want to risk his marriage with Elin, allegedly telling his mistresses to hush hush if his wife came aknocking. Is it something about men? That we want to know...

You call this Dancing?!

Posted 11-23-2009 at 05:55 AM by Victor Eremita

When I hear the word dance, or the phrase let's dance; I have in mind ballroom dancing, or at the very least, one hand holding her hand, and one hand holding her back and moving where your feet takes you.

Honestly, much of what passes of as "dancing" is just shaking yourself to the music. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but I think we shouldn't cheapen the word dance like that; maybe we should use another word: boogie maybe?

Just Sex?

Posted 11-22-2009 at 06:49 AM by Victor Eremita

So it's Sunday morning now and I've just come home from clubbing. But I could've stayed out later as I was a given an opportunity to come over to some girl's place that my buds picked up and have sex with her and her girl friends. As I was the fifth wheel (three guys, two girls) I declined their invitation, even amid their protestations that in North America, two guys one girl is very common. Frankly that's not my bag, but what's most important, I had no connection with these girls, they were just not my type. These girls were just too slutty, with exposed clevage, tons of makeup, smokers and...

Interpreting Kierkegaard Properly

Posted 10-09-2009 at 03:56 AM by Victor Eremita

Let me get this out in the open: Kierkegaard was not proclaiming the death of Objective Truth and relativism abounds. I'm just amazed with how so many people can interpret Kierkegaard so badly. Take one of Kierkegaard's most famous passages:

Quote:
What I really lack is to be clear in my mind what I am to do, not what I am to know, except in so far as a certain understanding must precede every action. The thing is to understand myself, to see what God really wants me to do. The thing is to find a truth that is true for me, to find the idea for which I can live and die. What would

Infatuation Alert!

Posted 09-28-2009 at 10:53 PM by Victor Eremita

Being the typical male that I am, I glance at clevage, glimpse at curves, and stare into the eyes. Sure, yummy eye candy, but once outta sight, life continues.

Oh man, but today, me and the family are in the suburbs shopping and whatnot, and we went to a Japanese restaurant, and out comes this beautiful waitress! The way she moves, serves and smiles, oh man. Can't get her out of my mind.

If I went by myself, I definitely would've flirted, kissed her hand, and thanked her personally for great serving. As it happened, I had to just rely on good ol' eye contact and small...

Look up in the Sky...

Posted 09-26-2009 at 04:02 AM by Victor Eremita

You're looking into the past,
as light from distant stars,
takes years to reach us

The many planets we have seen,
Those that could support life
And even those that can't
Who knows if they are populated now?

And when you think about it,
There may be a civilization out there
Who is seeing life on Earth,
And can perhaps tell us, what happened

So long ago on Earth.

Is there room for philosophy amid suffering?

Posted 09-23-2009 at 05:17 AM by Victor Eremita

Sure you and I are not suffering too much, but what about those many others who are suffering, probably homeless, probably in despair, probably trying desperately to find food and clean water on a day to day basis. I cannot imagine they spending their freetime discussing Plato or Kierkegaard online on a forum. My apologies in advance to those of you reading this blog post right now who are also homeless and hungry.

Which gets me wondering; which so much suffering, why bother with philosophy, especially those of the metaphysic and epistemological kinds and with other luxury disciplines...

Archie Chooses Veronica?!?

Posted 05-28-2009 at 09:21 PM by Victor Eremita

Well, the guys over at Archie Comics has declared, in Part One of a Six Part Arc, that Archie Andrews, the ultimate undecider of all things love related, chooses the sultry, alluring, rich girl Veronica Lodge over the girl next door Betty Cooper. (Archie actually chose Cheryl Blossom in an earlier Love Showdown comic, but that was total bull).

So Archie finally proposed after almost 70 years of beating around the bush. He made a choice, but is it the right one? Perhaps, in such dire economic times, ol' Arch had to choose the rich girl, so he can be set for life.

But...

Happy Birthday Kierkegaard!

Posted 05-05-2009 at 06:52 PM by Victor Eremita

May 5, 2009 is Søren Kierkegaard's 196th birthday!

To mark the occasion, here's a passage from his theological work, Purity of Heart is to Will One Thing:

The talk assumes, then, that you will the Good and asks you now, what kind of life you live, whether or not you truthfully will only one thing. It does not ask inquisitively about your calling in life, about the number of workers you employ, or about how many you have under you in your office, or if you happen to be in the service of the state. No, the talk is not inquisitive. It asks you above all else, it asks you...
