SOUTH AFRICAN WINE

Posted 03-10-2010 at 03:57 PM by Sean O'Connor

What do you think? What do I think? What do they think? What do we think? A little wine to sprinkle the love that buries my silly insecurities.
To fall in love…to some this is highly controversial. Rimbaud says he laughs at the lying couples but I laugh at him telling his own lies.
Beyond all our lies lay our sincerities, perhaps.
The fan spinning…should I smoke a cigarette tonight or some other time? Why do I get so sad? Because I am impatient and slightly lonely at times when I’m not distracted and the wonders sometimes overload. Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with me...

CHAPTER THIRTEEN Frozen in Flight

Posted 03-10-2010 at 10:41 AM by salima (brokenwings)

There was an incredible ice storm that November that left my back yard looking like Jurassic Park. Fall had remained unseasonably warm late into the month, and the trees had been duped, leaving them loaded with leaves when a steady rain suddenly froze, adding more weight than the limbs could support. Huge branches split and crashed to the ground, narrowly missing the garage, leaving a quarter acre of debris from three to five feet deep in spots; telephone wires were knocked out all over the city. The temperature dropped to near zero in what was to become the only really cold spell of the season....

Time and Time

Liz Dean was good at what she did. People liked her and liked to hear her preach. She operated from a converted school bus at first, traveling from town to town spreading the word. But she wished to settle down. She found the endearing town of Tinderbox and did just that.

It wasn't a little town, but not particularly big either. Before long Liz had established quite a following. She genuinely cared about her congregation, and they cared about her. They began to call her “Sister Dean.” The moniker demonstrated her acceptance in the community. Sister Dean decided to collect money...

Posted 03-06-2010 at 10:21 AM by Lily (Painting the Lily)

It's been a while since a made one of those lists, and I really like making those, so here's some things I've learned. So, did you know that:
  • it's hurts to walk into a door
  • some people just can't keep a secret
  • spring is comming up
  • love can hurt you more than walking into a door
  • I can't do my homework without having a cup of tea
  • there's some unwritten law that you're not supposed to tag yourself in a picture on facebook
  • this smiley is the funniest
  • drunk teenagers do stupid things
  • drinking five cups of tea will have consequences
  • really tired teenagers laugh
...

LOVERS (intro from LOVERS, OTHER STORIES, AND WORDS)

Posted 03-05-2010 at 06:28 PM by Sean O'Connor

“LOVERS”

In a bar. Charles is drinking a whiskey shot and smoking a cigarette. Gram is sitting next to him, also smoking a cigarette. He says “You know what the problem with women is? Hey… “ He taps Charles on the shoulder.
Charles say’s “Huh?”
“You know what the problem with women is?” Gram asks again.
Charles sips his whiskey. “I don’t know of a general problem with them.”
“What the **** are you smoking? Here…smoke one of these.” Gram gives him a cigarette. “Put out that shitty American cigarette. This one’s Canadian.” He then lights Charles’ cigarette...

CHAPTER TWELVE The Master’s Chair

Posted 03-05-2010 at 10:39 AM by salima (brokenwings)
Updated 03-07-2010 at 11:53 AM by salima

On what started out to be a particularly ordinary day, I found a message on my chair when I returned to my desk after a morning break. Raj had called and left a phone number where he could be reached.

“Raj! It’s Grace,” was all I could say, my voice choked and my spirit soaring.

“Yes, Grace. How are you?”

“How am I?!” I exclaimed, trying to keep my voice from becoming a shriek; rather than waiting to find a pay phone which would have afforded some privacy, I’d called him from my desk. “I’ve been going crazy! I was terribly worried about you, almost crazy...
