Non Dualistic Cyber Space

Posted 07-14-2009 at 07:21 PM by GoshisDead

Now to revisit a common blog theme of mine, the cyborg and cyberspace. Have cyber-denizens tapped into a somewhat nirvanic mental state?
Has the dualistic nature of subject/object been technologically fused?
Have we as cyber-citizens fully integrated into informational beings?
Are we separable from the net and other netizens?

Before Reading on take a second to ponder these questions.

The pinnacle of mystic awareness, beyond emptiness, beyond holy communion, is the non-dual state. A state that is pre-aware, it is the state of reality. It

On The Nature of Myth

Posted 07-10-2009 at 04:56 PM by GoshisDead

This is a highly personal belief about myth in accordance to my definition and working operational faith expenditure regarding myth so beware.
First I would like to pose a query; What is Myth (a myth if you prefer)?
1 a : a usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon b : PARABLE, ALLEGORY

2 a : a popular belief or tradition that has grown up around something or someone; especially : one embodying the ideals and institutions of a society or segment...

FUN = SIN ?

Posted 04-27-2009 at 01:30 AM by GoshisDead

I was in church today when a church leader of mine said something with which I identified deeply. He said "The Gospel is fun, and if you don't think its fun you probably aren't living it".

The words fun and sacrifice have been pet peeves of mine for ages. Its not that they aren't highly relative to a situation or a person's interpretation, anybody
who thinks at all realizes that s/he can have fun doing just about anything s/he enjoys no matter how unconventional. Also, a person can sacrifice anything and deem it
worthy, hard, difficult, inwardly rewarding...

Dying the Good Life

Posted 04-04-2009 at 02:24 AM by GoshisDead

The noun death normally refers to the state upon cessation of vital bodily functions, yet the verb to die can refer to the state of being between birth and death as these bodily functions degrade to the point of cessation. The noun life refers to the state of being during the time that vital bodily functions operate, while the verb to live refers to the same thing. It seems to me that living and dying are pretty much the same thing. So from now on I think that I will be Dying the Good Life.

On Law

Posted 03-28-2009 at 07:01 PM by GoshisDead

On Law First I will present some presuppositional information about what law is and how it will be used in the following essay. Law is that which must be universally obeyed given certain conditions. If the universe has laws, such as those proposed by physics, certain matter acted upon by certain other matter in certain circumstances will always produce the same result. Given this assumption the universe is the way it is because this is the only way it could be. To extrapolate a hypothetical example; The Big bang happened. All matter must obey the laws of the physical universe at all times thus...

The World's Worst Anthropologist

Posted 03-19-2009 at 04:05 PM by GoshisDead

The other day I was privvy to a gaggle of traditional medicine people that were including me in a conversation about certain traditional (sacred) medicinal practices that ranged from proper trance induction, to sweat, to herbal medicine, to teaching me medicinal songs. All in all it was quite a priviledge. Afterwards a lady involved that knows I have anthropology degrees as well as linguistic ones asked why I didn't write any of it down or ask to record it, she was very surprised and responded with mixed reactions when I told her.
I told her that I didn't write any of it down because it...

Starfish Idealism

Posted 03-14-2009 at 11:13 PM by GoshisDead

There was a point somewhere in the American Zeitgeist where the words romantic and idealist were vilified as unproductive, impractical, non-scientific, and less intelligent. The idealist is "quixotic" say most, noble but misguided revered for their flagrant disregard of insurmountability, but tsk tsk-ed and oh poor thing-ed behind their backs. I propose that the romantic idealist is the catalyst for cultural change the communal expression of humanity's humanity, and the Cog in the machine of society that allows for synergism, evolution, and escape from the merely mechanical.

Style Wars/method Wars

Posted 03-12-2009 at 08:01 PM by GoshisDead

In that past few day two friends with different points of view have attacked the writing style of the other with the Whorfian argument that the way the other writes shows either inherent unintelligence or inherent dishonesty, this is my reply.

A short explanation of the Sapir/Whorf hypothesis: The Sapir Whorf hypothesis in its strong form says that 'the way we speak determines the way we think'. In its weak form it says 'the way we speak influences the way we think'. In its modified form its a dynamic admixture of environment influencing the way we speak which influences the way we...

Thoughts on "The Mystic"

Posted 03-04-2009 at 04:40 PM by GoshisDead

It sometimes pains me to hear and read sentences like "who is he to say that he is a prophet" or "I can't believe people are so brainwashed" or any other of a plethora of spiritual bashing sentiments. I wonder how a person can be so blind as to relegate the entirety of their worldview to such a finite set of validating standards, How they can trust all well being and happiness to what is empirically proven to them. Yeah yeah, no one actually relegates their entire worldview to the empirical, its impossible, but you know what I mean. Yet there is an interpretation...

Intersex on the cybernet

Posted 02-27-2009 at 04:02 PM by GoshisDead

In response to a conversation that piqued my interest I'm writing a short morphosemantic analysis on the morphemes cyber and inter and their relation to modern cyber-culture. Bear in mind these are reflective analysis with no research done on them but they seem to stand to reason. Commentary is appreciated. Presuppositions: 1) derivational morphemes tend to become productive or drop out of a language. 2) There is no such thing as a true morphological synonym.
Cyber- Has a convoluted etymology that as best as i can trace comes from the Greek word Kybernetes - governor or steersman. The term...
