The old man tells the story. He had several children. When they were young, he would send each of them out into the woods to find a stick. They were to bring that stick back. Then he would have them break the stick. Each one broke the stick easily. He then sent them out with the instructions to bring back a bundle of sticks. When they returned, they were then asked to break the bundle of sticks. Each one tried and failed. He then told them, That is family.
I've come, in my later years to have the notion that if there is a creator, then that person might be somewhat of a parental figure. Maybe that person is primarily concerned with how we treat each other and ourselves.
After all, humans are of the same species or family.
Its just a thought. Another of many ideas on who the creator is and how that person might feel about things.
I am a dad. I have children. I want them to grow up with their own individuality and find their own way. But, I also want them to stick together. And love each other. Oh, I know they fight sometimes and get on each others nerves every now and then. But, its always temporary. They still communicate with each other and I think now that they are grown, they consider each others feelings more. They rarely argue about things. But, if they do, and I know about it, I try not to butt in. I want them to solve their differences on their own. Eventually, they always do.
Many people have their own ideas about God. Does God have the characteristics of Gods children? I think so. And, if so, then surely God would consider us Gods family. And God would do things in our best interests.
That is my conception of God.

Memories

Posted 09-03-2009 at 04:30 PM by Elmud (A bundle of sticks)

I've heard,,that when you look up at all of the stars in the night sky,,you actually are not seeing the stars,,,but just the light from the stars. The stars themselves may not even exist anymore. Just the light they produced. Like a memory. I don't know if that is true or not. Just something I heard.

Drove to an old church cemetary in a remote part of western Arkansas last weekend to visit my aunts grave. No one seems to be maintaining the graveyard very well. Her grave was overgrown with grass and weeds. Doesn't matter I guess. She wouldn't care. My cousin tells me that she saved...

The Last time I Saw Her Face.

While flipping through the channels the other night, I came across the Country Music Awards show. Some guy was performing. I listened to a little, some others as well. Pretty boring. I never was much of a fan of country music but, years ago, at least there was some poetry involved in some of the songs. To borrow a word from my friend T, the music on this awards show seemed to me to be pointless drivel. I had to go outside to my truck and turn on the old cd player and listen to some real music, with some meaningful lyrics. Some decent poetry. I listened to a song by a well known folk artist. One...

Catfishing.

Posted 05-13-2009 at 08:53 PM by Elmud (A bundle of sticks)

Not much into bass fishing. Lotsa hard work. Ya have to cast too much and your arm gets tired and sore. I like catfishing. Fish all night long. Have a cooler full of sodas, a sammich or two, maybe some cold KFC. Have ya a nice comfortable lawn chair to sit in. A foot stool ain't a bad idea either. Don't forget the radio. Ya need some music when you're catfishing. Throw the worm or chicken liver on the hook, prop the pole up against a rock or stick, then sit your butt down and relax. Wait for the fish to do the work. Have a snack. Take it easy. Enjoy doin ,,, "nothin". This is catfishing...

The Big Lebowski

Posted 05-12-2009 at 02:32 AM by Elmud (A bundle of sticks)

I recently watched the Big Lebowski for the umpteenth time. I love that movie. I especially liked it when Sam Elliot was introducing the "dude" at the beginning of the movie. While the dude was shopping at Ralphs grocery store, Elliot was describing the dude. He stated that the dude was most certainly a lazy man. Possibly the laziest in Los Angeles County. Which would qualify him as one of the most laziest worldwide. I thought that Jeff Bridges did an excellent job playing the role. Loved his expressions. John Goodman was great too. The ex Viet Nam vet. Steve Buscemi played a good role...

The philosophy of lasagna

Posted 04-13-2009 at 07:46 PM by Elmud (A bundle of sticks)

Not many can make a decent lasagna. I, however, can. Good lasagna must have fresh ingredients, and all the flavors must be given the time to blend. The ingredients are as follows:1 1/2 pound ground chuck. (not hamburger). 1 white onion finely diced. 4 cloves garlic-minced. 2 tablespoons sweet basil. 1 teaspoon sea salt. 1 teaspoon ground pepper. 1 can stewed tomatos. 1 8oz. can tomato sauce. 1 6oz. can tomato paste. 1 box lasagna noodles. 1 container, {lg.}, cottage cheese. 1/2 cup parsley. 1 lg. egg. 1 bag graded parmesan cheese. 2 bags graded mozzarella cheese. ---step 1, boil the lasagna noodles...
